it s was -9 last night but has warmed up over night to a balmy 7 with 20mph winds.

what i cant figured out is who in there right mind ever settled up here so many years ago. HAHA.

Poughkeepsie: A whopping 16F right now 10:30 AM, calm and strong sunlight. Sure hit zero F last night with a choppy breeze. I went out for 2 minutes just to soak it all in, that's all I could stand.

No biggie, that's winter. We had -28F January 1994, in the middle of two weeks where top temp was 10F. Water supply lines froze 8 feet under the sidewalks & streets and worse, gas lines broke and two buildings blew up. Who knew that would happen? Up til then we had alternating snow, rain, sleet, rinse, lather, repeat until every roof had a glacier atop. Roofs were collapsing on outbuildings & barns but not houses. About as bad as I've ever seen it here.

5°F in Baltimore this morning at 7:30am, but rising rapidly. In 3 hours it went up to 12°F but says it "feels like 2°! I don't think were going to top (bottom?) Quebec. It's only supposed to go down to 10°F tonight and going up to 32° on Friday.

I work at home may days, including today. I brought a plug-in oil-filled heater into my office last night, otherwise I've got to heat the whole house. I keep thinking this is the less costly and more targeted approach.

I can't help but think about my old short-haired dachshund (RIP 1/20/14) who would have refused to go outside in this and what a blessing it is that she doesn't have to contend with it. I do miss her, though.

A balmy 50 F here in Southern BC. This Arctic dump missed the West Coast entirely. Even the sun came out. But rain is promised for the weekend.

I was wondering how you could carry on in a no-heat house, brrrr.... Glad to hear things are getting better in that respect. Here I show 55F in my upstairs workshop although the old locomotive in the basement is working, an ancient coal boiler that was converted to gas about 80 years ago. Thank hevvins for small blessings.
