I've had a warped neck steamed before. It was temporarily useful but eventually moved back to being slightly warped and ultimately wasn't satisfactory and I had to replace it. Hope you have better luck.

With respect, 10thtx

I've been thinking about this. Ampmike, as a woodworker, I think you know something about warpage. Wood wants to do what it wants to do. If you don't relieve the source of the internal stress that makes it bow (or cup), it will tend to pull back. Let's hope this guy has some magic mojo. I guess it's worth trying to save the neck. I'll look forward to the report.

Get a high quality new neck and use the old one for a cigar box guitar.

You can browse the pre-made neck stock at Warmoth Guitars ( http://www.warmoth.com/). I see a bunch of maple with rosewood Strat necks, with tinted gloss lacquer for around $287. I have bought bodies and necks from Warmoth and find the quality to be high.

I have to agree with all above. Life is too short to mess with fixing a bad neck unless that is a prized vintage guitar. Good luck with your search. I Have a USACG neck that really butters my biscuit....

Mike, give Tommy at USACG a call, he will fix you up with a fantastic neck!
If you are going to play it hard every day, I'd get stainless frets. My everyday guitar has such a great USACG neck but the frets are wearing fast, I'm fed up with level and crowning it.
My other USACG guitars which don't get used so often are holding up well.

EDIT: I had a look at B.Hefner and specced up a beautiful roasted maple/rosewood w s/s frets for $229 in the -20% Xmas sale. Definitely worth a look!
