Big new toy

Post by HeeBGB »

So my brothers company has a machine shop. A few years back they had some issues with the controller on their CNC Mill. They replaced and put the old one in mothballs in their warehouse. I am hoping to move it into my garage within the next month or so. It's a behemoth but has been repaired and is fully functional. All I have to do is get it moved.

WOW! Now you can carve your chassis out of a solid block of aluminum! So cool.
I build and repair tube amps. http://amps.monkeymatic.com

I'm thinking I might make some JTM 45/100 end blocks for a first project.

Cool score, years back there was a guy on the Metro Amp forum that milled a 45/100 end block chassis from a billet, that thing was sweet!

End blocks would be a cool project.

Yeah I remember some of those metro site chassis.

I had some photos I collected from some where.

I think I have some pics somewhere of that one piece billet 45/100 chassis. IIRC, the forum member that milled that chassis was from Germany, he was predisposed I guess....LOL. He sure threw a lot of chips to make it happen.

I believe it means you can work with a simple brake-made 3-fold chasssis and skip making the sides. Of course, with a mill like that, the idea of a simple brake seems upsurdly out of place. The few times I worked with an open end chassis, I made wood blocks. This is for a head. In a combo amp, it looks to me like end blocks would just get in the way.

BTW, my knee jerk response was, "because he can."

Just a simple method to reinforce the early thin brake folded 100w chassis. In modern times, it just makes for a era correct looking chassis if one is looking to build a 45/100.

It's a long way off. Probably more than a month. I am leaving on a business trip tomorrow and won't be home for a week. After that I have to dis-assemble the unit and cart it home piece by piece unless I want to blow $3000 to pay a rigger to do it. Should be fun though.

I've moved mine a few times.

Around the shop, the easiest way is to get some pieces of 2" IPS under it and roll/pivot it.

To get it to another location... You'll need at least a liftgate truck, or flatbed with chain hoist for the bigger pieces.

You'll also need 3 phase to run it.
