Allan was one of my all time favorites. Devastating news.
Re: Allan Holdsworth RIP
Sad to loose another great musician.
Re: Allan Holdsworth RIP
I will always cherish the time we drank Ale together between sets. I introduced myself and mentioned that I also played a Boogie and how I was introduced to him a few years earlier via the disc in Guitar Player mag and that I loved devil take the hindmost. He commented on how he liked the venue, which was a brewery and I mentioned that I was thinking about making my own beer.
Well, he didn't know me from a can of paint, but grabbed a table and invited me to sit with him to enjoy a pint. Him and I chatted alone for over 20 minutes and I don't recall discussing gear at all, it was mainly about beer. I came away thinking what a super nice person and that he seemed to appreciate talk about something other than his rig and chord structures.
LIke so many others, terribly scary guy on guitar, but with limited commercial success.
RIP

Met Allan back in the 70s. A nice, genuine guy with amazing guitar skills.
Only 70 years old.
Awful news.

Wow, that is terrible. A truly rare genius. Allan used to live close to me and one day he came in the guitar shop that I worked at here in Laguna Beach. The guy I worked for, Kirk Sand, is a luthier who builds these wonderful nylon string electric guitars, I was showing them to Allan and he had a kind confused look on his face. He said "I don't really play those" and I said " Nylon string guitars? " he responded "no acoustic guitars". RIP Allan.
Re: Allan Holdsworth RIP
Maybe that was Allan's inspiration for the Maccaferri nylon string solo on Thirty Years with UK.

Damn. I just bought his new 12 CD anthology - Man Who Changed Guitar Forever, and have been listening to his LPs a lot lately - Secrets is on the table now, and had read that he was recording another album. What a shame.

Played my Carvin AE185 with his signature Holdsworth pickups at practice last night in tribute.
