Pearl Harbor Day, 2021

Post by BobSimpson »

Not much talk of this one any more.
Some would have us forget it altogether.

December 7, 1941 — a date which will live in infamy — the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan.

Indeed.

The History Channel has been running Pearl Harbor documentaries and some a few Hollywood movies since the wee hours of the morning.

I'm seeing posts about it all over reddit today. So it's not forgotten.

My Dad worked at the Naval Shipyard at Puget Sound, Bremerton WA from 41-46. He was an engineer for heating and air conditioning. He worked on all of the battleships raised from the mud of Pearl Harbor. I had enough stories of the aftermath to last a lifetime.

But I became a Navy and WWII buff because of it. There's still lots of coverage of 12/7/41.

Very cool, I live very near there right now and have taken the Bremerton ferry a few times to see that side of the sound. My parents were just a bit young to know much at that time. My dad was born in '38 and mom in '42 so my dad doesn't remember it but my aunt does pretty well (his older sister).

Sadly most that do remember that era are gone. it was 80 years ago that pearl harbor happened, and there aren't a lot of 100 year olds still kicking around anymore.
