Where are U.K. people buying wire?

Post by Seb C »

I have searched but most entries are quite old and as I’m sure a lot of U.K. people have found, many small shops have closed in recent years and Brexit makes ordering from the EU just worse.

This will sound very picky, but then this isn’t really the forum for thrown-together mediocrity!

I’m trying to find Ptfe insulated, solid copper core, preferably silver plated, 18 or 20 awg, ideally with a choice of colours, and not buying it on 100m rolls (I only need a bit now. I don’t mind buying a bit extra, but the thought of trying to troubleshoot a future build where all the wire is the same colour, because I spent loads on a huge roll of wire that I feel compelled to use).

Any good sources I’ve missed? I’ve spent hours on Google…

Thanks. One of the first places I looked - but their Ptfe wire is 22awg, their solid wire is 26awg, and their heaviest is only 20awg. It really is hard to find here…

You really should ask. He has things that aren't listed that he builds with and is pretty good about getting things you ask for if he can.

I'm selling this on ebay
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/194467001786

It is stranded but I've used it for everything lately.

Habia EE-2219 High Quality PTFE Hook Up Wire 1000V 17A 22AWG.

I can do mates rates through here though.

Thanks Craig. I spotted that on my trawl. How do you find it? I have aspirations of some ultra-neat lead dress a la Milkman, Roft, etc. The right wire must be part of that (like… 10%. I’m
Sure The best builders on here could make anything neat…)

Well it's a bugger to strip that's for sure so I had to buy a new stripper, side cutters just won't do.
I found it easy to get neat, the lack of shrink back when you solder it is great and putting a twist in will keep it flat to the chassis.

I've attached a pic of my first build which I used it on and I think it turned out pretty neat.
