Stained grill cloth!

Mesa is too clever. They built this baffle in two parts. The top is covered with blue vinyl and the bottom with cloth. Then they edge-glued the two pieces together, forever obscuring the stapled edge of the cloth....it cannot be removed without destroying!

I wrapped everything in plastic except the cloth, and washed it in my tub with hot water, dish soap, and 409. No improvement. What cleaner(s) can I try next? I was told the stain is cranberry juice, and the perpetrator was a toddler...

Full strength. Misted and misted until completely damp, let dry. Repeat until appears new.

I was able to get a full bottle of red wine out of a white shirt using a mixture of household (3%) hydrogen peroxide and dish soap (Dawn). Maybe even thin with a bit of water. Works like a charm.

I had a silver face Twin come in where the previous owner spray painted the grillcloth black. I tried several methods, unsuccessfully,
to save it as the new owner didn't want shiny new cloth. The rear looked OK so I removed it and stapled it on reversed. It looked aged and perfect.
I've tried expresso, tobacco and stain on new cloth to age it, to no avail. What works for you?

Ideally, you need to make it a filter for a large volume of air with fine tar content.To fake that is very hard. The biggest problem is coverage. Most people start out with a very dark mixture and end up with blotched results. Here is what you do.

Go to a fresh piece of paved road with lots of blacktop overhang at the edge and borrow 5 pounds of asphalt. Fill a mason jar half with the graveled asphalt and then fill to about 3/4 with naptha.

Shake it and swirl it. Let it sit for a day. Swirl it around until the naptha is not picking up more color.

Congrats. You just made asphalt stain. It is the same thing that they stained mahogany with for a century. Martin guitars were asphalt stain that whole time. Gibson brown until the 70s was asphalt stain.

Ok. Now you need to pour it through a paint strainer a few times.

This is cut with denatured alcohol in a common spray bottle, but hopefully one that doesn't spit too much. Mist the cloth until lightly damp then dry in bright sunlight. Every 15-30 minutes new application. You stop when the untouched thing has developed just enough to look almost like you wanted it. If it looks RIGHT yiu went too far. lol

At the end you have to dust the cloth with a sensible brush that won't damage the fibers. No other consideration.

Your alcohol mix will be about 50/50.

Well, this 68 slant cloth is pretty stubborn. Did one OxyClean spray, it's going to need a few more to get that decades old beer stain out.

If it is that stuborn get a super soft art brush and a shop vac. Spray wet barely touch it to scrub then suck the goo off.

You know, just be careful scrubbing. Anything stiff will change the texture of the weave.

I guess a 1" soft bristle brush (like what I use to put doping on speakers) might be the ticket. It has lightened up a bit, just put on the 3rd coat.
