Using LTspice to create amp models for NAM

Post by Lauri »

I was testing Neural Amp Modeler and creating models for it from my amps. I had an idea what if instead of using a real amp to create the model I would just use LTspice for it. I ran the WAV file that is used to create amp models through 5E3 LTspice simulation. It took about 6 hours and then I used Neural Amp Modeler Trainer to create the amp model from it. I compared it to other 5E3 amp models that are available free for NAM and I'm surprised how well it turned out. It's not as good as the models created from a real amp but it's pretty close. With a little bit of tweaking it could be possible to create really good sounding models with LTspice.

I think this has a huge potential for testing what different kind of circuits sound like without having to actually build them. Big downside with this is that it takes a really long time to run the LTspice simulation to create the needed wav file.

That is really cool, I'd never heard of it. I am definitely gonna have to play around with this.

That's cool. Does the end product have volume/tone controls like the real amp, or is it just a snapshot at a particular setting?
