I saw him at the Old Waldorf, possibly in [gulp] 1978.

I had a custom tshirt airbrushed, I got a leather strap tooled, I got a Maestro tattoo, and I got 30 Firebirds all about this record.
Firebirds play so stiff and shitty. Perfect for slide. lol
Highway 61 best ever. Record SOUNDS brilliant.

I've never touched a firebird I've always wanted one. I think theyre about the coolest looking guitar ever made. What makes them play stiff and shitty? Is it the neck thru? It looks like the strings are a long way off the body? Maybe the strings angle too hard over the saddles?Reeltarded wrote: ↑Fri Sep 01, 2023 8:08 pm

I wonder if that's why Allen Collins started playing an explorer? I've never touched a real explorer either.

So flat. The shallow angles over the saddles and nut are solid, but not the best feeling. Weird sounding. Headstock dives.
They feel similar to mid-year SG Melody Maker but the neck is 15% fatter.
All that said, used to be a great buy. Super low production, half were custom colors, and an FB-1 is a simple and sexy bitch.
So many colors. I had a III in Aztec gold. I have only seen one other guitar in that color. Kerry green.

That's so cool.that blue/green is awesome. Yeah that headstock looks pretty heavy. I could imagine being pretty unwieldy to gig with.
Looks like the neck angle is shallower than I was thinking. I looked at some pics that had the bridge pu sitting high but now I realize the rings don't add any height

I don't care much for Firebirds. Now, one painted like Gumby would be awesome.
