New newest addition to the family

Post by dartanion »

Hey Guys,

I solved my Les Paul dilemma with a total GAS buy. About 5 years ago I saw a similar Les Paul for $995 and didn't act quick enough. Could let this one go.

Sorry for the link to another forum

That LP looks great! I bet its a killer player too.

I say leave in the P-90's and put cream covers on them!

Put some tonepros: steel studs and aluminum bridge on it too if they arn't already.

I have a heavily played '94 Classic Plus Honey Burst and it came alive with tonepros.

My fathers got a sweet 73 LP Custom Cherry Burst too. Old Lesters are great!

Dart, what condition are the frets in :?: It sure seems like she's been played. Lots of "character." 8) Congratulations on a great axe :!: :!:
Nice wood floors, too :D

Hey Guys,

Thanks for comments.

The frets look to be newer and slightly oversized, which is fine by me. The nut has been filed down too far, so the action is set high to compensate. A new nut and setup will make this baby perfect.

I have a set of cream covers on their way. A little dirt, some steel wool, a couple of gouges and they'll look perfect on this axe  Who needs to $50 for aged covers....not me

It still plays really nice and the neck is very SWEET!!!

Is it the super thin style neck? My fathers 73 is thinner than any "60's slim taper" Gibson I've come across.

Does the binding come up the end of the fret a little or do the frets sit over the binding on the fretboard? I'm not sure if you know; but thats how you can tell if they are originals or new (usually).

The neck is pretty wide, with a 60's taper. Not too slim.

The binding does come up a little over the ends of the frets, but their are small stress fractures in the binding at almost every fret. They also seem to be a bit oversized frets.

Stress fractures aren’t necessarily an indication of re-fretting. My '94 with originals have stress cracks; I've also seen a few 60's 335's and SG's with stress fractures in the same spots.

They started putting medium jumbos around that time period as far as I know. But if you have binding that wraps up the side of the fret slightly, it was either a good re-fret or its still original, but from the shape of the finish. I think it was probably just a good re-fret.

Congratulations Dart. You're going whole hog. Here's what you'll sound like with P90s in a LP. This of course is the Special not the Deluxe, but you should sound about the same.

I don't think it's fair to call it a mullet if your hair only grows in the back

Personally, I think he looks better with the halo :D

I had a mullet once....ONCE!

Great player though. I've always respected that. The mullets were hideous.
