Shoe- worst gesture– especially the bottom of a shoe
An Arabic reporter for CNN said the guy was calling Bush a dog while lying in the floor. How many ways can an Arab say, "I don't like you!"
I was rather impressed with Bush's reaction time

Yup! President Bush has good reflexes and is funny to boot...

Arabs have long memories?
If that guy had thrown a shoe at Saddam, he'd probably be half way through a wood chipper right now. Either that or he'd be watching the secret-police rape his wife and daughters in front of the rest of his family.
Just something for you all to chew on.
I think this serves as an ironic sort of validation for Bush's legacy as a liberator.

Bush just laughs it off. As you said, what better proof of new freedoms

Absolutely.
He spits on Bush and just the ability to do so speaks volumes for our troops and willingness to try and help people.
Like you say, that guy would have been taken out and tortured or shot on the spot if he had done that to Saddam.

I hate to rain on yer parade but creating lasting peace in Iraq is like tryin' to dig a hole in the water. Wif a teacup!Structo wrote:Absolutely.

As long as we continue to throw bodies into the breach we can maintain a little bubble of tranquility in the Green Zone. So far that has cost:
Over 4000 dead.
Over 30,000 wounded.
What goes around comes around. I'd be surprised if post-U.S. occupation Iraq doesn't play out like Iran played out 30 years ago.

The shoe throwing journalist, if convicted, is looking at 5 to 15 years Iraki hard time...
That is Iraki Prison...
C.I.A. investigation is over.
The shoe was indeed a size 10 well worn Hush Puppy...
The question remains...why would someone throw a shoe at the liberator?
Hum...

Yeah, great.Tubetwang wrote:The shoe throwing journalist, if convicted, is looking at 5 to 15 years Iraki hard time...
We should appoint Dick "Darth" Cheney as Colonial Governor of Iraq. That way he can personally oversee the waterboarding of the offending individual. Hell, he can hop over to Afghanistan and straighten that mess out. Trust me, Big Dick speaks a language the Taliban understands.
Shoe throwing journalist tossed in prison never to be heard from again? It wouldn't be the first time.
But then... Madoff will probably do 3 to 5 in some country club of a white collar prison. There are small time dope dealers and wife beaters doin' harder time and more of it.
I hope Our Boy Bernie likes the U.S.. He'll do his time, "pay his debt to society" and live high on the hog here tappin' whatever offshore bank account he stashed the loot in. Sure, those assets are supposed to be frozen and paid out to the people he (allegedly) swindled but I'm sure he has something set up. Nuthin' fancy, just a couple million dollars per year until he earns his wings. Those wings... bat wings, not dove wings.
Oh... I say "I hope he likes the U.S." Europe is kinda outta the question. 3 to 5 and out here then another 3 to 5 the minute he steps off the plane in Europe. It's kinda like the European gig we all want, a couple shows in England, a couple shows in Germany, a couple shows in France and then off to Japan or something. Except the "divine Mr. M." would do a couple years here, a couple years there. It could take a while!

Why didn't the Secret Service, at least, block...the second shoe?
Re: Size 10 shoe flying 4 o'clock...over
My guess is that they did not expect a shoe being thrown, never mind two...Abstract wrote:Why didn't the Secret Service, at least, block...the second shoe?
They were all shook up.
The guy was an expert thrower, no doubt.
The President was alert and his training helped.
Expect an E-Bay rise shoe offer from the Middle East...

The average Secret Service hard-on can knock down a flyin' shoe wif an MP5-K from across the room...
Re: Size 10 shoe flying 4 o'clock...over
Just in...
The Iraki's are working on a guided missile type shoe...
Pentagon's anti-shoe-system is almost ready for delivery to US Ambassy...
Last week...some demonstrators had a shoe throwing demonstration at the Toronto, Canada U.S. Ambassy...

Funny, but I was actually being serious.
Arent' they trained to "expect the unexpected" or somesuch nonsense?
They probably didn't expect the first shoe...but after the first shoe was thrown...and the dude grabs for his other shoe...were they still unsuspecting?
What if that shoe was gunfire?
What happened was a SERIOUS lapse in security.
Was it intentional?
Re: Size 10 shoe flying 4 o'clock...over
What if the shoe was a shoe bomb?
Of course he would have to light it before he threw it........
I am surprised that the secret service boys didn't react better in the incident.
Reminds me of when Reagan was shot.
They had a vulnerable moment there and the gunman (Hinckley) exploited it.
