Well we have a lot of wild turkeys as well and you can only shoot one per season so the only way get more is buy running them over good road kill.

Yeah that is a good picture. :D

Reminds me of the farmer's wives around here always complaining about the moose staring at them through the window and pulling up all the new sapling trees they planted.

Its a shame people hunt them well they don't actually hunt them. Many years ago I did my first and only moose hunt which was ridiculous walk up to it (bull) without spooking it and shoot. Like hunting cows in a pasture.

I was resisting the temptation to say that.

That is a great moose picture.

Great pic BWI. But Cuddly my aching arse. More folks killed by Moose in the state of alaska each year than by all other animals combined. And I don't mean from running into them with your fiberglass roadrunner either, I mean by having the life stomped out of you just for crossing their path. Mostly what we Alaskans call "Folks from Outside" though so no biggie.

I suppose you all heard of the Tourist in Alaska from the lower 48 who picked up a can of Bear Repellant? Yeah, he thought it worked just like OFF the insect spray with deet. Sprayed it all overhisself before it began to dawn on him just what kinda trouble he was in. Spent I think a long overnight in the hospital and went back to the states.

We have bumper stickers in Alaska that say "In Alaska, You Don't Ever Loose Your Girlfriend. You Just Loose Your Turn"

Kinda sums up the philosophy of the place in a short succinct turn of phrase.

Bush Company A#1

Anchorage has moose in the Wal-Mart parking lot, right down town too.
Watching 4 lanes of rush hour traffic avoiding a cow as it amble's thru is a
sight to behold. Sitka deer has got to be the best tasting piece of venison
I've had. The last hunk of Moose I had from Maine tasted
like a paper mill smells. cant win them all.

We got a van to replace the on bambi used for hari kari. The good thing with
this crap economy is that used cars in my area have gotten to be really, really,
cheap. $3k, cash, a low miles ford in good shape. The only thing that really
terrified me was the potential of the circumstance to land us in debt. I've
been debt free my entire life and try like hell to not do anything or use any service
that could shackle myself to debt. Fate worse than death. We have no debt,
so the only thing we notice is the price of food and fuel. I get really angry
about it, and feel very lucky that the money was there, and a car was there,
all at the right time. DEBT FREE!!!!!!!!!! bambi can go to hell..

There have have quite a few hunters in North Dakota chased up a tree because the cow moose had a calf near by.

The last guy I knew of was my friend Rick, threw his rifle (no sling) on the grown and up the tree he went. He was laughing so hard thinking about what that must have looked like. He didn't want to shoot the cow. :)

Elk are an issue here - coyotes if you are small.

Nothing like bombing 'round a downhill corner on your bicycle to find a family of elk blocking the road!
