Re: Miller Dowel Joinery Kit
I've seen the Miller dowels, but never used them. I'll bet it makes one hell of a strong joint

Yes, but the Kregg system allows for a precision line-up of the parts to be joined. And then again there's the Festool Dominoe which looks to be what God would use if she still built cabinets.
Thanks for the tip, I hadn't heard of these folks before.

Noel are you talking about the pocket hole type joining?

Re: Miller Dowel Joinery Kit
I've just popped a Princeton reverb head cab using a 45$ piece of 4/4 Merbau from South Asia.
Easy enough with the help of Bessay 90 degree corner clamps.
Will let dry, sand and finish with oil.
These Miller dowells are great for dudes like me who pop a cab every two months or so...
They will not put Festool out of business anytime soon but...

Re: Miller Dowel Joinery Kit
So did you just make butt joints that are glued, then drill and insert the Miller Dowels?

Re: Miller Dowel Joinery Kit
I clamped the wood, drilled, unclamped, glued, and popped the dowels in...
One has to be carefull not to put too much glue on the dowels...i did at first and noticed that the dowels were difficult to go in.
You don't want the dowel and the glue fighting for the real estate...

In the 60's people took acid to make the world weird. Now the world is weird , and they take Prozac to make it normal.
Re: Miller Dowel Joinery Kit
In the past when I glued in dowels like on a fender neck to re-drill the neck mounting holes, I cut the proper length piece of dowel, then took a razor knife and cut a small groove the whole length of the dowel.Tubetwang wrote:I clamped the wood, drilled, unclamped, glued, and popped the dowels in...

What this groove does is to allow the air to escape from the hole as the dowel is driven in because the glue creates a seal and prevents the air in the hole from escaping.
Works great.
