Tweed super to tweed deluxe conversion

Post by groovtubin »

Have a tweed super, but would like to go to a tweed deluxe w/6V6`s, anyone have a line on maybe a bracket to convert to the smaller power tranny? Really appreciate the help!

Hi Jim,
My buddy just picked up a 56 tweed super chassis that runs 6v6's stock. They came that way back then (6v6's or 6L6)..they just used a washers between the nuts to catch the edge of the cut out..if that makes sense.(pt)

One question though, If this is a real tweed super? why not sell it, and buy a real tweed deluxe? put the change in the bank :D

What model super is it? What are the voltages now? What about just dropping the voltage with some Zener diodes on the center tap of the b+ secondary. So you can run 6v6's. 400v minus would be good. Cathode biased.
Most supers are fixed biased. And a different tone circuit.

You might be able to sub in a 5y3 and get there.
The super OT might be a bit low in the primary impedance.
Tweed deluxed were about 8k, but I find 6k sounds great.

5E4 I wanta get it right....using the parts n all..thank you for advice! Really appreciate it! THe voltages are high, he used a weber vst bassman, it blew, i installed a 70`s bandmaster, w/diodes...same thing, i want it to get creamy like the originals do..

Jim, I built a 6V6 super changed the baffle to 12"
used a black face Deluxe PT from Mojo. Mercury magnetic OPT
At the end of the day ended up using a known Hendrix JTM 45-100
preamp a Dumble phase inverter and a black face deluxe power amp
set bias due to the fact most of the clubs we play the electrical is messed up
