"studio bass" tube orientation

Post by maxkracht »

I am working on a Fender studio bass and was wondering if anyone had any incite into why they would go to the trouble of soldering the v2 socket to a separate plate then bolting that to the chassis. Plans to drive the EQ section with an octal tube, machining chassis, then deciding the octal tube was too expensive? Drunk machine operator on chassis cutting day?

Fender never threw anything away, it was likely a machining error and that's how they saved however many chassis were made wrong!
Many times they even sold their protype amps which leaves us these days with no matching schematics.

Your guess on a octal tube to drive a tone stack though is way way out there!

Same chassis was used for Super Twin Reverb which has a 6C10 tube there.

Oh that's right!
I forgot all about them using that 12 pin compactron tube for that brief point in time!

Cool! I don't think I have ever come across a Super Twin, or a compactron tube... Thanks!

Yup, they're a triple triode.

There's 3 different main types that were used in guitar amps.

Ampeg used them a lot and Fender used them again in the Superchamp and they're getting real hard to find !
