I have used many of the usual suspects.Bob Pollock wrote:Any particular recommendation? Thanks.SIX el SIX wrote:The stock HRD OT is horrid sounding.

Heyboer, Hammond and Merc Mag were standouts.
I usually use Merc Mag iron, but I've used a lot of their stuff so I don't pay full price.
I have, more than once, simply changed the OT on Fender's cheap tube amps and the tone significantly improved. Blues Jr., Deville, e.t.c.
I wouldn't hesitate to use Hammond or Magnetic Components either. I'm sure there are other good alternatives.
I've used lots of different components and really don't have opinions on which are better. A lot of stock parts are clearly built to a price and not for sound. I've heard that the HRD is about $80 of parts total. Everything else is manufacturing cost, shipping, store overhead, e.t.c.

By the way, if any of you would like to make some extra cash, I can offer you a part-time job for $25 per hour. It's not hard and you may even find it fun. It involves speaking in English over Skype with those who need someone to correct their mistakes in grammar and pronunciation. Will be paid on a daily basis. If interested, please mail to: adm24.vacancy@gmail.com
