That photo pretty much captures the layout.

Here're the description and specs at Allen Amps - http://allenamps.com/brownsugar.php

"Topology - A unique blend of a brown-era preamp (tone controls, phase inverter and presence control) with a tweed-era cathode-biased output section and wonderful blackface-era reverb. Enhanced with a bright switch, middle and RAW controls, reverb TONE control, impedance switch and the ability to use 6V6, 6L6 or EL34 power tubes for a truly unique and versatile amp with the best qualities of each era in one handsome package."

If I were building a kit, that's one that would be on my short list.

Post by ampmike »

Thanks Zip,He gave him 10% off,I Think it was about 800.00.We have to make a head and 2x12.Allen gave us a nice headcab plan for the fender slant front chassis.Should be done this week, cant wait to see what the RAW pot does!Mikey

That seems a swingin' deal.

The RAW control gradually lifts the tone stack from ground.

Working

Post by ampmike »

Yahoo, fired up no problems good day for me,. :D ,this was a great package and a deal, amp sounds nice.Reverb is not overbearing, you can turn it to 5or 6 and its sweet.Spoke with David Allen on the phone,he answers every time and is allways willing to help you out.I have to say this amp kit was the best I have ever seen.So much detail and clear guide to the build. He really put a great product package together, second to none.So far I just played it through a 2x12 and its got more volume than I expected with the 6l6's.I have not tried the EL s yet. This amp is for my daughters boyfriend.I have to make him a nice set of cabs next.Ill post some more as I go,thanksMikey

Great video demonstration! Loved it!

Yes indeed ....... those speakers in your vid are some of the most transparent speakers I've seen/heard. Great clarity!

That is one sweet sounding build Mikey! Well done!!

I have bought a handful of 5F6A Bassman iron sets from Allen for my all octal "mutation" of that plan over the last 5 years. Wonderful sounding amps!

After hearing your demo, I am wondering if he is adding some special-sauce in that area. Their web page mentions some level of customization with Heyboer but I don't know enough about transformer construction to tell how significantly different they are from others.

Regardless, I would recommend Allen iron without hesitation for Fender'ish type builds.

Cheers,
Dave O.

Well,This was my first attempt to do a clip,This amp really stays tight even on 10.I This guy has some nice overdrive pedals and its just breaking in.I had it set on 3.Its dead quiet,Good grounding.Ill really crank it next and have some more of a demo this weekend.Im just really happy with this Allen amps.
Dave is really a solid guy and very nice, and like I said picks up the phone and is willing to talk you through any problems. These are great kits for starter guys.Im mean his instructions are freekin bullit proof. And made in USA  This amp is a great platform for pedals.Im going to hate to see it go,it was a rewarding build, learned a bit more each time. Thanks Guys,Mikey
