2nd Build - 5 years later - Allen Accomplice Jr

Post by doveman »

My 1st build was a Brown Note D'Lite 22/33 - 5 years ago. While I've modified a couple of amps, I have only decided to build another.

Allen Accomplice Jr head kit on the way. I'm going to tweed the head even though it's a blackface amp. I have a tweed 1x12 and 2x10 cab I can use with it.

You can run it with either 6V6s or 6L6s. Basically a 1-channel Deluxe Reverb with a bit more drive capability with the raw control. No tremolo but I don't really want it.

My last build was a blast but it's been a while. My last build was this guy - I do love the amp still ...

Hi Doveman
I remember your d'lite build from the BrownNote forums
The Allen stuff is great. Looking forward to seeing your new build.
Cool video and cool guitar chops.

Thanks - I've added VVRs to a Richter Supra-Luxe and also a Dr Z Route 66. Those were awesome mods but really have only had a minor itch to build another.

I like the fact that the Allen creations are a bit of a variation off the originals but can be taken closer to the BF Fenders if you want. But all the described variations make sense to me going in.

The RAW control is a cool feature
I've built a couple of David's SweetSpot amps.
Both combos....with a 12" speaker and 6l6's or 6V6's
they are really great grab-n-go little amps.
The Accomplice should be a great addition to anyone's amp arsenal.
Good luck

I'm still wallowing through my very first build, with help from a few of the usual suspects here, but I'm constantly thinking about what I want to build when I finally drive a stake through the heart of my spitfire clone. I'm building from scratch pretty much all the way, but have heard and read many wonderful comments on Allen's amp and kits. You're description of the Accomplice is spot on with what I want to achieve. Thanks.
It's a guitar amplifier. How hard can it be?

Hi Ken.

A guitarist can never have too many tools.

I really enjoy electronics and it is always such a pleasure when the device you are building makes a pleasing sound.

I hear a lot of good things about Allen amps.
Tom

Don't let that smoke out!

Finished for today ... made a lot of progress.

[IMG:640:309]http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m168/dovemanpix/Accomplice2_zpsc05c3da6.jpg[/img]

Basically about 75% done ... board built, tube sockets wired, pots wired, star ground installed (that was tough). Also ... output transformer, reverb, choke ... all done. Just need to deal with the power transformer, power and standby swtiches, speaker connections, bias connections. Getting pretty close.

Done ... did a final check ... tubes glowed ... biased for 6V6s ... fired her up with guitar and speaker connected. It doesn.t have reverb yet as it comes with the combo cabinet when it's built. Should be a few weeks. Sounded good and very quiet. Good parts, good instructions = good kit. I did save from extra OT leads (Green/Yellow/Black) ... wire tied and tucked away under the speaker jacks. I may hook up a switch for speaker impedance since the OT has 6V6 and 6L6 leads.

Got to work tomorrow but I'll give it some playing time this week and see how she does. Good project.

I had broken the download device for my digital camera ... so the above shots were from my iPad. I took these with my digital camera in case I could figure out a way to send them. I bit better pix. So for those who like to study the builds up close:

Congrats Doveman
Looks great...that was quick
I'm guessing your looking at the vibrato hole for a possible place for a imp switch. How are your voltages looking?
