Mark,
Wondering why you don't just use a single 6sl7 since your only using 1 triode out of both tubes? You could probably use a lot smaller power supply caps because of the low current.

I tried that and ran into trouble I think because of shared cathode pin 6 used for both amplifiers of the 6SC7.

So then I was thinking about three gain stages but in end only used two but kept both tubes.

The original toaster preamp used one 6SL7 tube but we did some changes such as different xlr jack and rewiring of the Edcor 10k/600R transformer and settled on using two dissimilar tubes 6SC7 & 6SL7.

I bet it sounds great! Wonder how good it would work running a stereo setup of the preamp using the other triodes one channel sent to the amp, other to the p.a., etc.

I'm building another 5b6 toaster preamp the last one has low residual AC hum which I could not cure. Amature.

Going with new tube sockets and eyelet board. :)

I love it! And to answer your previous question, I haven't built it yet but I have settled on an idea for one of my toasters. I will build an idea I've been mulling - Xits X10 preamp into a Marshall JTM1/145 power section. Collecting parts right now, will post a new thread later. Thanks for the inspiration Mark!!
