I saw a picture of the HAD Champ where the filaments were modified (possibly not by HAD) so they were at the other side of the chassis and not near the wiring.
So, the filaments were near the tubes?

The original layout has a clear illustration of the original Champ filament wiring. Most people prefer to use a two-wire filament string to keep the filament current off the chassis.

The Tweedle Dee Champ layout posted above will be dead quiet... The ground for the second gain stage and power tube cathodes is missing.

I concur, the TDC that I built is quiet.

Is the TDC as quiet as an amp with a push pull output?

I ask as I have played a silver faced Champ that was very quiet, different circuit of course but I was surprised how quiet it was.

I was making a joke... with the missing ground it won't make any noise at all! It does have more filtering than the factory version, but I would still expect some of the characteristic SE hum.

I have a large core output transformer and a ten inch speaker, which is possibly adding to the volume level of hum. A small output transformer and the 8" speaker may have made the Silver faced Champ seem quieter. The amp didn't seem to lack bass response though.

I'll have to try the extra filtration stage.
