The two differences between BF and SF are the 40uF filter cap on the SF (and many BF) and the 4uF bypass cap on the driver stage of the SF models. I expect the latter makes a much big difference in adding "cut through" and making the SF a noticeably brighter amp.

After firing up my old Gibsonette GA-8, I took out one tube. Hardly any difference in volume, which means
there's really no point in building a Champ since the Gibsonette is so similar (dual 6V6 SE Class A vs a single 6V6).

So I'm probably going to shelve this project for awhile.
