70's Rivera mods?

Post by Mark »

I saw this video and was curious if anyone knew what the mods were?

I haven't been sold on the sound of the amp. Curiosity more than anything?

I have owned a Rivera Fender Concert and it was pretty M'EH.

The only thing I remember about late 70's was lost in a alcoholic binge of epic proportions.................seriously, I had a couple of Rivera modified fenders come across my bench back then. Here's what I remember(it's not much)
1. Fat switch was 6 position rotary switch that had caps in series in place of the treble cap on the tone stack. The switch wiper was shorted to one end of the cap string and allowed one to bypass part of this cap stack to get larger values of capacitance. At one extreme the caps in series add up to ~ 250pf and at the other end to ~ 0.1uf as all caps except last are bypassed by the switch(don't remember exact values).
2. An extra gain stage on the front end (similar to MB mark 1 type of thing).
3. Standard pre PI master volume.
4. One of the preamp gain stage's had a 2200 ohm cathode resistor instead of the 1500 ohm standard one. I don't recall which one.

I had detailed notes at one time but have long since lost them.

Not sure about this product, but Paul put EV -12L or Altec 417-8H speakers into these. It makes for a very heavy DR, however, it's part of the Jones.

The Rivera Concert had EV speakers as an option, though I don't know what was offered in the Concert amps with 10" speakers. The Mark 1 Boogie amps offered an Altec or a JBL as an option to the stock Eminence speaker.
