Current 6L6GC ?

Post by jaysg »

For an modern Supro running cathode bias or fixed bias at about 450Vdc. Amp will be run into distortion -- not preamp gain.
The last time I bought a lot of tubes, the Tung-Sol parts were decent and no one has complained. I know it's variable from year to year. thanks ahead

If you need/ want to maintain the tightest low end even into the clipping range of the amp then get a matched set of JJ brand 7027 tubes, there a drop in for 6L6GC tubes, but as with any amp that can run in fixed bias, the bias should still be checked and if need be reset.

A 7027 is NOT a drop in replacement for 6L6! Drop one in a Fender AB763 and prepare for fireworks. Look closely at the pin diagram...

Yes, TAD STRs are preferred for drop-in. Found JJ KT77 to be good too, assuming there's an extra amp of filament current available for each pair.

+1 for TAD GC or WGC (more mids).

Remember they are rated for 30W pd.

Actually i just retubed a Vibroverb last week with a set of russian "Tungsols". Sounding quite good. I got them from Kevin Deal at Upscale Audio. He burns them in at 450V before matching, so any is instability or bias shift is addressed before matching.
