Finished a simplified Blackface amp with Reverb and KT66.

Post by wpaulvogel »

Just finished this one up for a buddy in Texas. Running KT66 through a Heyboer Trainwreck Express 6.6k output transformer. Hammond power transformer running 465 volts. It’s got carbon composition resistors and old Mallory PVC600 caps. RCA, Sylvania and Mullard glass in the preamp. Makes 32 watts clean rms
Has beautiful clean tones and the KT66 have a nice overdriven grit.

THAT IS SWEET. KT66 Blackface is on my radar. Sound clips?

I like the depth of your chassis. Are the preamp tube sockets positioned simply to minimize lead lengths? I mean the offset of the preamp vs. power tubes. Only seen that in Fisher amps myself.
Just plug it in, man.

I learned that layout with the Trainwreck builds and it’s to keep the wiring short and sweet.

Very nice! It's interesting to look at from a few levels. The head looks great with the natural wood on the front (very cool looking!) I like the way you cut the top of the head as well (reminds me of Badcat).

The multi-caps in the layout remind me of Marshall amps which I like vs. Fender's cap doghouse. My OCD is in it's happy place right now looking at your wiring! Super clean. Awesome job overall!
If you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to be a horrible warning.

really, really beautiful work. I did something similar with 6v6 tubes and I'm still fiddling with it for the best result. Gotta love a straight forward clean amp!
