Reverb tank connected vs not connected

Post by pjd3 »

Hello,

i was hoping someone would comment on the electrical aspects of whether the reverb tank is connected or Not connected, if there is any loading or "un-loading" that can be expected to make a sonic difference.

Reason I ask is that I'm very close to finishing a single channel Pro Reverb type amp (no tremelo) and want know if I could start gigging with it just using my digital reverb pedal while shopping for tanks.

I've owned a couple of Fender AB763 amps but, its really been a while and I always just left the tanks plugged in.

thank you for your time!

Best,
Phil D.

I'd say pull the driver tube so you don't get high flyback voltages on the reverb transformer (it's a SE amp OT), and switch he reverb off with the pedal switch to ground the recovery stage grid.
