Valvestorm... all you vintage marshall needs.

I hope no body minds.
In case any one is looking to build a plexi style amp, or even an as close to possible clone, then Robert's site is as close to a one stop shop as you can get.

They have PINK wire, always a hard to find item.

Is there a tool to put those Marshall chrome dress power/standby rings on without damaging them?

They sell the ring which is good, but I didn't see a tool to get them on and off without damaging them.

The guy has BOM's for several amps that a good thing, as well as switches for dual power supply switches which I imagine would be hard to find, so I wouldn't sweat it.
Yours Sincerely

What I do is install the switch with the ring positioned on the threaded bushing with one or two threads exposed and then tighten the hex nut against the inside of the chassis.

I had thought of doing that while using Loctite very sparingly.

I would be easier to tighten them from the front. Oh well.

I use pliers wrapped in electrical tape for the old style without slots.

On the slotted ones I use two larges slotted drivers.

Yeah, I'll bet there is a special tool #145a that is made for those dress nuts.

Sort of like a tool to unscrew the back of a Seiko wrist watch, that I have.

Or you could make one from another tool.

similar to the one here.

It would have to clear the bat handle of the switch.

I have done what Martin suggested by tightening the back nut instead of trying to tighten the notched nut which always seems to end with some scratches or worse on the face plate.

Two big drivers works great. One works fine in a pinch..

No scratches..

(looks at amp pile)

If you had a piece of steel rod, it could be hollowed out and the end could be cut to accommodate the slots. A lot of hassle really.

I asked Valvestorm if they sell a tool to do this task. I'll report back.

I use a small flat hex wrench as spanner tool for tightening these nuts.

this is nice to have around. note if not careful it can scratch a ring onto a faceplate or guitar top.
