I'm doing a 2204 build with a Hammond 272jx, one of the older ones that only runs 115v. My question is what do I do if there is no 0v or common tap on the primary?
I have little understanding of trannys and this is my first build, but I have done a lot of repairs and mods before this.
The primary has 2 taps for 115v.
Also if I'm not using the 5v windings, I just bundle all of those up and and forget about them, correct?
Thanks guys

A winding has two ENDS, you understand. You apply AC to two ends of the same piece of wire, which is wrapped around the core, to get the magic happening. If you are presented with two primary wires and you're unsure, use your ohmmeter. You should read very low resistance (a couple of ohms or so), indicating that these are two ends of the very same same piece of wire.

Yes, if you're not using your 5v winding, cap these wires and stow them safely away. I've used them in the past to power a string of LEDs.

Re: JCM800 w/ Hammond 272jx wiring question
I'm not real clear on exactly what you have so I will assume that the primary has two separate 115V primaries, unlike the modern version which has a 0 start, 115V tap and 125V end primary winding.
If it truly has two separate primary windings then you would simply parallel the two windings, the start of each winding would be connected and the ends of each winding are connected together.
maybe this helps

This is what I have, which differs from the modern version, or at least the data sheet for the modern one.

Also, what brought this up is trying to figure out what I connect to the North on the incoming AC from the wall.
Re: JCM800 w/ Hammond 272jx wiring question
What I'm getting from this, and with a cursory glance at a 2204 schemo is that I one side of the winding goes to N and the hot goes through the switch/fuse and into the other winding.xtian wrote:A winding has two ENDS, you understand. Yes. And it does not matter which of the two primary wires you connect to hot. The transformer doesn't care.WORMDIRT wrote:What I'm getting from this, and with a cursory glance at a 2204 schemo is that I one side of the winding goes to N and the hot goes through the switch/fuse and into the other winding.
