I don't know who Cloud 9 Amps are but they should be ashamed of themselves.

I thought point to point means the whole amp is built on terminal strips with no boards. Is this correct?

I think there are bigger issues than that :P. But yes I think thats what its supposed to be, although that term does seem to get thrown around a bit.

Rat's nest.
Looks like builder's inspiration was a CBS Fender amp.

And those are some of the ugliest, ancient, "high end components" I've seen.

I do like the clever way he's extended the leads on many of them....NOT!

What a mess !!! Amp build looks like some of the earliest Bogen PA head rebuilds I did------ mix of used and new components, sloppy wiring/soldering------ Everybody has to go through some sort of learning curve when building amps but being proud of work like this is a strange thing.
I hope the amp doesn't injure anyone or burn down a building------ sometimes ugly builds can sound good and be reliable, but I don't think it's the case here.

Here's a pic of a Bogen CHB35A that I "rebuilt" long ago-- 6L6GC x 2 cathode biased, Plexi/5F6A type circuit-- as ugly as it is and having a messy true PTP layout the amp is still functioning well and the owner recently used it to record with despite having many hi$$$$ name brand amps on hand----- it gave an edge of breakup tone that the others couldn't get.
I have heard back from players about other Bogen messy rebuilds I did early on that loved them---- one guy in Houston said that he sold his Boutique amps and used a Bogen CHB50 based Plexi/5F6A build I did long ago----- earlier this year I bought back another Bogen CHB35A/Plexi rebuild that had been used by several local bands over the years----- I bought it back just to get it off the local stages because it doesn't reflect the kind of amp work I can do now- One owner put one of my logos on the front of the amp and had the industrial gray steel box powdercoated bright white--- It still sounds ok and operates properly.

Here's a vid of one owner of a Bogen CHB35A Plexi rebuild I did long ago sitting in with a local band------ the white head sitting on a 2x12 cab, 2nd from left.
This is the amp I bought back just to keep people from using it out in public because it is ugly and it doesn't reflect the work I do now.
These several early Bogen rebuilds were intended only as temporary replacements for crappy/unreliable amps that some local players were using--- just until they could save up enough for a "Real Amp" of some type.
And over a decade later most of these "temporary amps" pop back up and are still being regularly used.

I know how you feel. My Express I built into a Marshall Chassis was messy when I first built it. After roughly a year I completely rebuilt it and it looks so much smarter now.

And here's the same amp being used by another band----- the white, rectangular thing sitting on top of the 4x12, 2x12 stack of speaker cabs---- no pedals used just the amp turned up to "10"---- The tone sounds fuzzy and flabby to me but this band, and many others, seemed to like it---- This amp was first put into service, after my "rebuild" in 2003-2004---- this vid is from 2015 and it is still operating despite being used with speaker load mismatches and at max vol most of the time---- I did replace the used Sylvania 7868's I first installed a couple of yrs ago with EH 7868's---- running the same used USA 12ax7's that I installed in 2003-2004.
To me this is "The Amp That Wouldn't Die"----- it kept re-surfacing, being used by a procession of different bands for recording and live shows---- and it was supposed to be a cheap, temporary "fill-in" until the first guy could afford a "Real Amp"------- and it just wouldn't die or go away and every time it would re-surface with another band my guts would churn because the amps I build now are not messy/sloppy builds and sound much better to me.
But the bands kept using this old sloppy build POS amp that was pretty much an embarrassment to me as an amp builder----- so last year I bought it back and put it the very back of my storage space and stacked other equipment on top of it.........it still works the same as it always has but I now consider it "RETIRED".

Vid: (there are more vids I could post of this amp, but what's the point?)

I like neat, ordered amp builds but some messy builds do actually operate very well................ gldtp99
