Fargen Mini Plex MKII - adding metro loop

Post by peckjed »

Hey everyone,

I just picked up a Fargen Mini Plex MKII last night for cheap and it sounds awesome. Essentially a 8/12w plexi style amp. I’ll be going through it to try and track down an oscillation when in 80’s mode (Ben says it’s the 4.7uF cap on the tone stack). But while I’m digging around I want to add an effects loop... preferably a metro loop but I’m open to other options. Has anyone done it on one of these or cpildnpoint out what might be a good way of implementing? I was going to put the speaker selection on a switch to free up the two 1/4” jacks to make room.

That 4,7u cap i guess bypasses the 10k cold stage, that easily creates oscillation,i would try a snubber on the respective anode resistor,470p/1n should be ok.
The loop is ok placed between the treble wiper and the MV,maybe it needs a bit of attenuation on the return stage.

Would that attenuation to prevent the effect in the loop from distorting? How would I attenuate that?

My buddy put in a mojotone loop and the effect is still distorting.

if the effect is distorted you need to attenuate more in the send,i guess the mojotone used a 20x divider, don't know what you have in this,it looks like a new model.
Probably it just needs a divider with a couple of resistors between treble wiper and the loop

I will take a look at that, thank you! Would adding the resistors to the between the treble wiper and loop effectively be attenuating it or would I need to lower the 470 Ohm resistor after the send buffer as well?

The loop works fine... the issue is it distorts when the master is cranked. Which I don’t think is really an issue as I can get all the gain I need from the volume (gain) knob.

However, it leads me to want to take out the London Power scaling as it’s really either on, almost off, or off. Kind of useless. Not how to go about that though!
