First node filtering on 69 100 watt build

Post by wpaulvogel »

I’m about to build a 1969 Super Bass/Lead. I’m planning to run two 470uF cap cans in series for the first node/ plate supply. It will have the typical 50uF screen filtering and 32uF filters in the preamp. How stiff is the heavy filtering going to make the power section? Has anyone else used anything like this before? I have a Heyboer T2562 power transformer, C1999 choke and C1998 output transformer.

Why such heavy filtering? Don't often (ever) see that outside of bass amps. What makes you want to deviate from the vintage schematic?

the mains filtering is usually 50uf, although 100uf and 32uf does occur on a few amps. I wouldn't go higher than 220uf in series with 220uf (=110uf) unless you are building a bass amp or a metal amp. Consider lowering the screens filtering in order to avoid a very stiff playing feel

If your building for Bass usage or metal then that's fine, but if your going that route for a lower 120 HZ noise floor then your better cutting that amount of filtering in to two sections by a 250 ohm 10 watt resistor.

try multi-star grounding for less noise

I’m going to use the Larry grounding scheme. I’ve got a jtm50 Clone with this grounding and it’s quiet.
