Some clips of my 124 finally...

Post by wjdunham »

First off - a belated but huge thanks to Tony for all those cool layouts, I have enough projects to keep me busy (and poor) for the next few years! It will be great to have all the information on those early amps in just a few places in stead of having to search around in 30 different threads - you the man Tony!

Second off - I finally found someone who can play the damn guitar and has a nice recording setup to do some demo clips of my 50W #124 (almost) amp. Vital stats for this amp are: JJ 12X7, TAD 6L6GWB, Weber Twin PT and Bassman OT, 460V on the power tubes, 195V on V1, 205V on V2. Differences from #124 preamp - .02 V2A coupler, 100K OD trim set to around 32K, no FET circuit, 47pF master bypass. No loop in any of these clips. Enjoy...

By the way, the guitarists name is Manny Swan, local Santa Cruz CA hot shot. All around nice guy and plays a mean Strat!

Can't get enough Strat clips. Sounds great. I like the full bottom and clarity on the top end. Put another way, sounds kind of scooped in the mids (without being thin) which is great since it brings out the character of the guitar.

Q. R those alnico or ceramic pups on the guitar?
Q. What resistance value did you use ahead of the 100k OD trimmer?
Q. RU using the classic stack or skyline stack?

My compliments also to the player!

Thanks guys, the clip was recorded using a Marshall 4x12 slant ( top) cab, 30 watt G12H celestions, relic strat, fender custom shop, rosewood board. Stock pickups, 6k bridge/ 5.8k neck / 5.9k middle.

The amp has a standard Skyliner stack with a .01 mid cap and 150K slope, hardwired in rock mode. For the rock/jazz switch I use a DPDT for an alternate boost, lifting the bass pot with a 100K, mid pot with 200K, but that was not used in any of these clips. It has 220K before the OD trim, 100K after V2A coupler, 150K after V2B. Who says skyliner 100K amps aren't strat friendly?
