I built a RT*6 clone.

375-0-375 PT

JTM45 6.6k UL OT

I'm considering gutting out and building a KT66 wreck type. My question is can I use this tranny I don't want to buy another one. I have a 30v zener to drop B+ and am using a GZ34 rect tube. any advice, thanks

Rattler,

Are you thinking about a Rocket or an Express type of Wreck?

I am also curious how much current the secondaries will carry?

Here is something I did with KT-66's in a Rocket style amp - http://ampgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7300&highlight=kt66

375 volts is pretty hot - I would estimate it at over 525 volts with the bare tranny & 485 with the zener diode. I think the KT-66's would take this and it's likely that you would end up with a very loud and clean amp.

Using the same info on an Express build there are others more qualified to say what you might expect.

In either case I think the 6.6K tranny would probably work well assuming it can handle everything a set of hot KT-66's are throwing out.

I hope you'll share what you learn if you do build.

rj

Thanks RJ, yeah the rockster was along the lines of what i'm looking for. i do want more grind, so loud and clean is probably not how i want to go. Is there anything that can get me there even if very loud (i built an airbrake), I just want something that can bite. i can add a MV if needed, the higher B+ should enable great cleans also, right?

again my parts:
2xkt66
375-0-375vac
gz34
Heyboer JTM45 o-tranny 8,9,6.6k UL

thanks again

Check my ad for a power tranny with 560VCT. It has a 117V primary, so it's prolly closer to 600VCT. Shameless plug, I know.
