The whole show is up except Tiger Walk (w/ the Strat)....For some reason I got a copyright warning on that tune so I deleted it.

you sure??? looks like 2 marshalls thru separate cabs, and 2 twin heads in on marshall cabs. hes doing the feedback thing with the marshall at the end too... when he used the SSS it had a tube screamer sitting on it that was always on btw..

First-hand-positive. He walked me through it himself.
The Marshall sitting on the middle cab isn't on, just used as a backup for the main lead head. The Dumble was sitting on a 20-space rack behind the Twins, facing the drummer, and was plugged into the middle cab.
It's true he used a TS808 (always on; wasn't sitting on the amp, but on a small pedal-board that had the 808, fuzz and the three-button wooden Dumble foot-switch; this board fed the MXR Delay in a small rack on the floor beside it).
After the A/B box, the signal-chain was 808->FuzzFace->MXR->SSS. The amp itself was relatively clean without the 808, even with the FET kicked in.
REALLY loud. He cranked the pre-gain all the way, and the master was always above 12 o'clock.
The tone controls were usually around 12 o'clock, with the Bright and Deep switches on.
Massive, natural sounding bottom end. Very different from what you would hear in a modern heavy-metal style amp (most of which I can't stand).

Lindley has some really killer phrasing.... I even hear some Hendrix licks in there somewhere.

Does anyone know what is sitting on top of the SSS in this clip? It apears to be a box shaped like the Odyssey Power amp EJ liked so much with his Manzamp/Phoenix pre he is believed to have owned. It is also possible that he's using the SSS preamp out into the Odyssey pwr amp. Also Could the Manzamp pre be in his rack? Did he ever use it @ live gigs? To my knowledge this pre/power config was used on Ah via and some other recordings

What a F' in great guitar sound!!

"The SSS was purchased in the 90's by another very well known guitarist here as was the Odyssey and the ManZamp Preamp. This gentleman decided to part with the SSS and Eric was trying it out again. The amp had been regrooved by Alexander. He opted not to get it back in the end and I believe the amp has been sold to Carlos Santana. It is really a beast and very loud. Most of the time during the AVM period if you heard him live he wasn't using it anyway but rather using the preamp section to power the old Odyssey power amp because he preferred the sound of that pre section more than the ManZamp pre amp. The Odyssey was a 100w power amp and Ej had a very early prototype. I think it broke up a little easier and of course wasn't nearly so loud. The SSS is really stadium approved and even when dialed in...hardly distorts. He is looking for a little dirtier bit on the DR amps than what this actually does. He has acquired a very early ODS which he is toying with. VERY early...one could call IT a prototype."
