2nd Generation 50W ODS Period correct Layout
Here is a Layout of a period correct 2nd Generation ODS 50W specimen, complete with part numbers for cap types, resistor types, type coax with specs, FET # for cross referencing and other valuable info.. If you have any questions please feel free to ask. However the source of this info and the series # of this amp and its whereabouts etc must be kept confidential due to request, so don't ask for pictures, Schematics or relevant information pertaining to this particular amp here or in a PM..Thank You!!
This is more than enough info to build a wonderful sounding 2nd generation ODS with all correct specs..Good Luck!!
For the sake of accuracy & confusion I recommend we refrain from calling this a so called 70's amp since we now have the info.. (we don't call 124 an 80's amp) same applys here, it's simply a 2nd generation ODS..
To Clarify
2nd generation "pre-classic" tone stack (1975 – 1978):
Treble: 500KL pot / 510pF treble cap
100k slope resistor
Mid: 250KA pot / .01 mid cap
Bass: 1MA pot / .1 bass cap / .002 soldered between the terminals 2 and 3 of the bass pot and .02 cap soldered between terminals 1 and 2 of the bass pot / 10K tail
Also notice cap types are not the same throughout
When the 2nd generation was manufactured
- pre production ODS with the 3 step OD switch (1968 - 1972)
- 1st generation (1972 - 1975)
- 2nd generation (1975 - 1978)
- 3rd generation (1978 - 1979)
- transition generation (1979 - 1981)
Also attached are pictures of #40 to help w/Lead dress and other references pertaining to layout..
These really are WONDERFUL sounding amps and recommend them highly!!
Enjoy All..:D :D

That really looks nice Tony.
As one that has ventured into Visio just a bit, I know how much work one of those layouts is so thank you very much for your effort.
That should answer a lot of questions.

Nice!
Do you have a serial number range for this circuit?

thanks tony ,awesome job

Re: 2nd Generation 50W ODS Period correct Layout
Thanks Tony, I'm all dressed up (minus the Calrad relay) and no where to go. I just need a better chassis than's what's available and I'm ready to pull the trigger.

The roundabout range is between #010 and #060.
Before are the 1st generation "pre-classic" ODS from #001 (Alexander's, he still has it) to around #010.
After 2nd generation "pre-lassic" comes 3rd generation "pre-classic" ODS from around #060 to around #075.
Then the transition generation "classic" ODS from around #075 to around #095
Then the 4th generation "classic" ODS from around #095 to around #140
Then the classic >>> "skyline" transition generation ODS from around #140 to around #155
Then the 5th generation "skyline" ODS from around #155 to around #200
Then the 6th generation "skyline HRM" ODS from #200 to current
originlly made "bluesmaster" ODS you will find in the #155 to around #200 5th generation series number range.
Hope This Helps!!..
Glad everyone is enjoying the layout..
Mike good Luck on that build
