My Express combo project. Need help to find trannies...

Post by vincenz »

Hi,

I already own an Express clone built by a friend, mounted into a Fender Twin 5F8 combo cab with two Greenback Heritage speakers.
Sounds nice, but I am not 100% satisfied with it.

Now I am building a new amp by myself, and I plan to put it into this Twin cab. I suspect that the cheap Hammond OT of my current amp is a 5k2 and I would like the new one will have a more smooth sound, maybe a little less loud, but above all a better "mean to clean" capability.

According to Glen's advices, I am starting with a Ceriatone kit (with a custom chassis for my combo cab), I will use Mallory power and signal caps, and 6k6 OT Pacific transformers.

I have searched but no success... now I think I would need some help to find where to buy Pacific transformers (OT and european PT voltage) ?

thanks :D :D :D

Here is the cab (Mojo "Twin Tweed high power", with Marshall Bluesbreaker look):

Try a 6k6 OT instead of the 5K2 that should help.

Check out rj's site http://www.rjguitars.net/

He has the 6K6 OTs, but says Euro voltage PTs are unavailable. He was taking requests in comtemplation of a special order. Don't know how that's coming.

Thanks for your answer.
Yes I am in touch with RJ, but the PT is back ordered, and will not be available until at least 6 weeks...

I read here a lot of people using Pacific trannies... but nobody is selling them? :?: :?:

I can supply you with a suitable pt for an express! 4-6 week build time. UK made.

If you can get it more easily, use the Heyboer PT with the Pacific OT. It's a great combination and is the one that's remained in my own Express build.

RJ, Allyn may have some, or just get on to Pacific yourself.

PAC trannies

Unless this has changed, Allyn Meyers sells Pacific transformers both OT and PT. Allyn is the moderator of this site. I bought mine from him.

Thanks.
Do you think they will be able to sell (and ship) only these two specific items directly to me as a final customer?

Don't see why not.... there is a 'custom' link on their homepage.

They sold trannies to Ken's custom design, and he only made very few amps. (circa 100 or so IIRC - and some of those used Heyboers) I recall someone posted his old line card for these transformers here somewhere.
