DIY Airbrake...
Hey all,
I just finished building an Airbrake. I got all of the parts from Mouser except the knobs. I powder coated the box in transparent mirror black and I haven't labeled it yet but I did take some pics:
Here's the guts...

...and another of the guts...
[img:600:450]http://www.andyharrison.net/files/airbr ... C00775.jpg[/img]
And here's the box...

...and another of the box.

I haven't had a chance to plug it in yet but a friend just built one from the same layout and it sounds amazing.
Hope you guys dig it...

Nice knobs!
No really, its gorgeous. I have one too, but mine now has paint job envy.

Hey Andy,
How much dinero did you spend? By the way, it looks great!

Thanks! They're not cheap, about $100 in parts all told. You need to order extra clips for the Ohmite resistor because they only come with one. That and you have to buy the clips for mounting the resistor and the shunt separately as well. It's a really easy build though and one that's pretty darn handy to have around, especially if you have a TW.

Re: DIY Airbrake...
Thanks!!! No need for paint job envy though, just get a Craftsman Powder Coating gun like I did. The powder is relatively cheap and you can get some cool finishes in about 30 minutes. BTW, the faux flame finish was done with a dremel with the carbon steel brush attachment.sliberty wrote:Nice knobs!

Re: DIY Airbrake...
Looks great! I think you're missing some jumpers on the selector switch.
Re: DIY Airbrake...
DOH! Right you are. When I printed out the layout it was pretty small and the jumpers are gray and easily missed. I completely forgot them, thanks for the correction...Normster wrote:Looks great! I think you're missing some jumpers on the selector switch.

Re: DIY Airbrake...
you did a very good job.
my Z airbrake is the same (I bought it used) before mods.
Since the big pot worked only with bedroom level but at the end it had too high volume for my bedroom needs (I used a THD before), I took off the cap, and connect the free pin of the pot to ground (to the ground pin of the output pot). In this way i can go down with volume a bit more and the sound does not loose quality too much. (in any case it's better than the THD)

Re: DIY Airbrake...
Andy, Do you recall the mouser part #'s for the mounting clips? This is on my short list of must builds!
Thanks,
Matt

Re: DIY Airbrake...
It did thanks.. I did notice one thing.
Is that the correct part number for the adjustable tap resistor? Shouldn't it be 588-D100K25RE? The layout says 25 Ohm not 25K right?
Thanks again,
Matt

Re: DIY Airbrake...
Right you are Matt! That should read 588-D100K-25RE. Thanks for pointing out the typo. I edited my message to avoid future confusion.
