Fender AB763 output xfmr question

Post by coldfire100 »

Hey Guys

New guy here, just registered on the forum.
I have a question on a Fender Deluxe Reverb AB763
chassis output transformer. I'm pretty new at the tube
stuff and this is kind of throwing me.

Bit of confusion on the output transformers.

I'm looking at a Fender AB763 chassis.

(http://vintagefenderamprepair.com/wp-co ... ematic.pdf)

The output tubes are 6v6GT. The data sheet for the 6v6GT says
the plate to plate load is 8K to 10K in AB1 mode

The transformer I'm looking at says it's a replacement for
th AB763 chasis.It has a 6.6K primary impedance
(http://www.classictone.net/40-18002.pdf)

Is this correct? This seems like it would be quite a mis-match.
I'm probably missing something here.

Any guidance will be appreciated.

Thanks

Hey Coldfire, welcome to The Amp Garage!

I think some of the confusion is that the Fender AB763 circuit is not just one amplifier. It can be made into other Fender amplifiers by just using a different transformer set (and some minor circuit changes). So it may be helpful to search for Fender Deluxe Reverb when browsing for parts.

Hope that helps!

I believe the 6k6 tranny is correct for the deluxe reverb

one thing you will find sooner or latter with the Fender blackface line of some 9 amps as you look across all the schematics is that circuit wise there are more similar than different, just more output tubes and or reverb and tremolo!
If you go and look at the output tube data at Triode electronics, in the tube specs you will clearly see the difference the OT impedance makes in power output of the tube used, and also how the amount of power supply voltage applied to the tube effects this need for a certain impedance range to keep the tube from burning up and or having a very short service life!
