Walnut 4x12 Slant Cabinet

Just to see how it would look I did a layout of the 1960 slant cab on a board.

There is no accounting for taste in design. I would have flipped that piece 180 degrees and outlined it so the interesting stuff blooms from the bottom and goes straight up. I hope you get my meaning. You can't really go wrong with wood that pretty. Heck, it would still be a thing of beauty if you cut it sideways and stacked it.

OK, I did a bad job of editing that photo. I don't have the right software. Bottom is the top. I think you'll get my drift.

You aren't wrong in wanting to keep as much of the Rat Tail as possible, but I am not sure what effect if any running the grain at such a slant will have on doing the finger joints.

After looking at my outline though, I do think I will at least flip the slanted portion to the other side.

I think I'm going to have to cut a Marshall shaped hole in a piece of poster board and move it around a bit.

I like the blond wood too, I used it on my walnut cab and tried to match all the corners. It will be heavy, my twin combo is around 90 lbs. I would save it for a smaller combo or a head cabinet, it would be a shame to set something on top of a piece of wood that pretty!

The cab alone will weigh 80 lbs. Heck, why not load it with EVL12s for an even 125?

This is going to be a demo cab that will live on stage in my friends club. It will get moved very little.

Not sure what speakers I'll use. I'll try some greenbacks that I already have to get a base line, then go from there.

Walnut looks really nice with the "wheat" grill cloth from the brownface fenders.

That walnut cab would go really well with my 1978 Gibson 'The Paul" made from walnut.

Mark, I have a funny story about one of those guitars. I'm working in a music store at the time and this guy walks in with a Gibson case, says he wants to have me set it up and check the wiring. When I open the case, I see this LP like yours there except he has covered the body (that was really beat up) with suede that he/somebody has stitched together (big leather stitches). Kinda like a Daniel Boone thing. Before long one of the guys at the shop looks at it and says it looks like a LP in a moccasin. ..And then quickly after a few back and forths, it became the 'Moc Paul'.

I'd rather have the Waylon Jennings leather wrap then suede, ish.

I added the cream pup rings, switch plate, and pick guard so it wasn't so plain Jane.

It has been a great gigging guitar since 1980 when I bought it for $200.

I know Andy Fuchs uses one of these LP's for his shop guitar.

I should have bought one of those walnut LP's when I saw it years ago in the store. I didn't have $200 ;-( I also had to pass on a reissue TV yellow with P90's. That one was a plain jane that I really liked. <sigh>

Is it still on a back burner somewhere awaiting the time to work on it?
