Prefect Stratocaster with Dumble!!?

Post by jazzcat »

"The Lucky Peterson signature model is our take on a classic American style blues sound. While it's tone stack is inspired by a more traditional black face circuit - a departure from our more 'Dumblesque' models, the overdrive section is taken from our '183' model. Cap this off with 6L6GC output power and you have a aural marriage made in heaven."

Lucky Peterson plays live through his signature 100W "Blackface 183" in this YouTube video:

If that's a match made in Heaven send me to Hell.
No Bloom No fat Midrange Sounds Thin to me.
I'd put Piher resistors in the preamp and NOS pre 1974 USA made 6L6GC
that should warm things up. Have fun on your quest. :D

For me it's the other way around...

Did anybody try a to pair low plate classic or Skyliner with a high plate #102 or#183?

As a mater of fact I went through quite a ordeal on #102 tuned it for two years never delivered the goods until I replaced the transformers with 28
year old NOS Magic Parts set. All my D style builds have vintage Iron that's
what I don't hear in your build. Not trying to hurt your feelings just trying to help.

After trying many combinations in the preamp of my 50 watt ODS 124 clone I found that I liked it best when V1 was modelled after a low plate and the overdrive section V2 was a high plate skyliner.

V1a .... 100K/ 1.5K/10uf
V1b ..... 100K/ 1.5K/10uf

v2a 220K/ 3.3K/5uf
v2b 150K/ 2.2K/5uf

Adding some reverb is the icing on the cake!

Trawled through all the vids and audio clips....IMO overall great tones.
The clean sound as demo'ed in the "behind the mixer" clips with strat and tele are a little thin to my taste.
Diva or not? - Respect for Mr. D's work....)

that's what my 102 is at. The clean is better now with single coils but I think the OD has suffered slightly.

I've been using my Bluesmaster more though so I can't be sure.

Lucky sounded good to me on the live clip...he was on the bridge pickup of a strat which is pretty unforgiving, and sounded good.

Not trying to be overly picky, but Skyliner refers to the tonestack and not to the V2 configuration.
