AX84 comming to an end, TAG needs fixing real bad

Post by Phil_S »

Chris Hurley has posted a notice at AX84 that the forum will be shutting down in the near future. He foreshadowed this some time ago and it is a sad bit of news.

AFAIK, this leaves only TAG where there is a good level of expertise informing the various discussions.

I am posting this as plea to rescue this forum from the malware blocks, else we will soon have no where else to go. Please, others are willing to help. What can we do in that regard?

If so, that is the longest running joke I've seen in a while... Gotcha!!

If not, then where did you read of this?

Pretty certain this is true, and very sad.
But I'm sure some others will take it over and update it and run it well.
Lucky they have the opportunity, unlike here on the Marie Celeste.

Good luck with that. These days, the only time Allynmey shows up around here is when he has something to sell. He's got some speakers for sale as of this morning, so he might actually be reading pm's - just make sure the subject line sys something about the sale item! :-)

Allyn is in the middle of moving. Please be fair and give him time to get settled first before expecting to take care of this huge project of transferring the site to an new platform.

maybe Allyn can add AX84 in sub-forums of TAG (and fix warning prob's)
and since Jim Fahey and R.G. are here now...add a SS amp sub-forum 8)
Don't overthink it. Just drink it.

The schematics are really nicely done, and are the biggest, easily rehostable asset at AX84. We should grab copies for diyguitaramps.com also.

I have built several of those designs. They really are top-notch and AX84 was my entry-point into amp building. I am going to REALLY miss it.

And don't forget about the other amazing and not-so-easily-rehostable asset on AX84.... direct access to the mind of Merlin Blencowe!

Wake up and smell the coffee - TAG isn't going to get fixed. It's on autopilot, and will be so until it runs out of fuel or hits a mountain and crashes. As I noted some months ago, every day that passes without it being fixed is another bit of proof that it doesn't need fixed, if you want to look at it that way.

Allyn may have issues, but it's been well over a year since this came up.

As to there being no place else to go, there's a new place:

http://diyguitaramps.prophpbb.com/

And at least one old standby, music-electronics forum, where there is no scarcity of technical talent for reference.

Yeah, man. That's where I go for solid state help. All this knowledge I've acquired building tube amps is a drop in the bucket when staring at a modern SS amp.

For only solid state help?

My impression is that there is a large overlap of the knowledgeable ones about tube amps from here at MEF, and that the bench is at least as deep at MEF as it is here.

Maybe there were magicians and wizards here in the early days, but they seem to be mostly lurking or scared off by the red screen now. My impression is that any tube wisdom is just as deep at MEF as here.

Enzo by himself can eat most tube wizards for breakfast.
