after a long hiatus, i've decided to build a trainwreck rocket.
I have a few quesitons that you might shed some light on.
1. I have a huge stock of NOS (probably made in britian) Carbon comp resistors, would these be ok to use instead of the normal CF resistors ?
2. I want to use the eyelet board on watts audio ( http://tubeamplifierparts.com/turret-ey ... y=10953012 ), is it ok to use on this build ? they look ok, just making sure.
3. does anybody got a chassis to sell ? :O
Sincerely,
Ariel
would love to have any advice of any exisiting cool mods that exist for this circuit.

1 - Those will work... may drift after a bit. They also may sound a bit hissy but should not hurt as far as tone is concerned.
2 - Those boards look nice. I haven't used that brand before but they should work.
3 - Not sure where to buy a chassis being that you are in Israel (?)
There are several suppliers here in the states. I don't know who will ship to Israel though. rj has some nice ones... Nice and thick. Also pre-punched. Here: http://www.rjguitars.net/

That Watts Rocket board is just a very close to my board and perhaps others have done the same thing.
I actually just ordered that same Watts board to save me time in making my own, it will work good it puts some filter caps on the long board and main filter caps on small board.
Would ordering a chassis from Ceriatone be cheaper?
Since you are ordering a board from Watts Audio he sells a nice blank Trainwreck 17 x 8 x 2 chassis and bottom plate. I use the bottom plate as my drill pattern is why I order that.

Mods for Rocket
http://ampgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.ph ... highlight=
I really think the Rocket benefits from adding a Mid pot and adding PPIMV.
Many owners come back to me wanting to add the PPIMV so it's not my choice it has been the customers. I do use a dual 250K linear pot instead of audio pot.
I usually add a SPST mini switch as a boost function which is just simply adding a cathode bypass cap (25uf or 10uf/25v) in and out of circuit on V1b. This can also be foot switchable using a Cliff jack on front or back of chassis and Marshall type single foot switch.
I many times add an effects loop, not necessary for a Rocket since the Rocket takes all types of effects pedals from the front very well. But this will allow you to experiment with certain effects or use a Dumblelater tube buffered effects loop in the amps loop to really enhance effect pedals. Unbelieveable what a cheap Boss Blues Driver sounds like through the Dumblelator.
Switchable HT isn't all that cool since I prefer the higher HT setting always.
Switchable 18w or 36w same thing I prefer the higher wattage setting.

Re: Starting a Trainwreck build, need advice
thanks Mark !
great advice, I'd love building the dumbleator, been long thinking about it since i built a #102. any advice on where to get boards for that one ?
I would buy the watts audio chassis, but i don't have the machinery to do all the drilling, just your normal hand held drill with a step drill bit.
would rather buy a punched one from RJ.
I will add the the PPIMV for sure, do you have any suggestions for a fx loop ?

I added a VVR instead of a master volume. It just takes the edge off the amp if you don't turn it down too much and doesn't affect the tone too much.

Add this: http://ampgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.ph ... ket+tweaks
and This: http://diyguitaramps.prophpbb.com/topic18.html
and This: http://diyguitaramps.prophpbb.com/topic69.html
and follow the various links they lead you to. You'll find a wealth of info on how to build the best sounding Rocket with great mods to try.
FWIW - I will always offer the parts I have to anyone active on this forum or any other DIY type tube amp forum at a price equivalent or below any of the big shops.... I mostly cater to DIY Wreck amp builders so I don't always have everything the big shops do. However, what I have is typically well made and well thought out and always available at a discount to forum members... meanwhile I'll get back to work updating my web site.
