Can any of you guys attest to using the complete set from Classic Tone ? PT/OT/choke ?
How does it sound in a Rocket build ? The last build I did I used their Wreck PT & OT. I used the 300V HT tap on the PT. The Wreck OT is a 6.6k primary ( better suited for an Ecpress I know) Im itching to do another Rocket and am considering their VOX set as it will be closer to true Rocket specs (280-0-280 HT) on that PT and a 4K primary on the OT. I was curious how others liked the overall tone using that set.

THe OT is excellent. Sounds warm and rich with firm bass. Not too bright

They are not bad for the price, but I definitely prefer Heyboer for my Roads packages.

Re: Classic Tone Vox AC30 transformer set
You wouldn't use an AC-30 set, you would use the Trainwreck power transformer and the A470 output transformer for the Rocket. When did 280-0-280 HT become true Rocket specs? I believe or 250-0-250 vac or 260-0-260 vac is the real secondary voltage. I have used a Classictone Trainwreck power transformer with a 260-0-260 vac secondary voltage and I have a rail voltage of 315VDC which is higher than the required 300VDC.
With 300VDC the output valves are running at 100% plate dissipation. This where you want the amp, higher rail voltages mean reduced output valve life and brighter tone. Timbre is subjective but I don't think the Rocket needs to be brighter. As far as adjusting the cathode resistor to suit, I've the changes need to be drastic to have a real effect. The difference between a 50 ohm and a 62 ohm resistor is really quite subtle.

Interesting RJ why do you prefer the Heyboer transformers? They are not bad for the price, but I definitely prefer Heyboer for my Roads packages.
I have played amps with Classictone transformers and they sound fine. Is there something that I'm missing?
Yours Sincerely
