I should have pointed out that I'm not across the CD numbers such as CD19 etc. In Martin's link the caps have either a 500v or a 1000v rating, this has me wondering what this CD thing is all about?

Not sure what you mean... CD is just the manufacturer (Cornell-Dublier, or CDE), and the CDV16/CD16 is the series designator, corresponding to a given set of materials and manufacturing process.

Heys, old thread, but this sort of thing interests me so I finally got round to trying these caps out and recorded some sound samples

CD thing was about ROHS vs. non-ROHS.

Nice work. Hard for me to say there's a huge difference across so many options. Subtle differences though ... some smear, some grittier, some smoother. Requires multiple listens. Definitely "season to taste" for whatever circuit is at hand.
