Aspen Pittman
Just read on Norman’s rare guitars page that Aspen was killed in a car accident last night. Not sure if it’s true or not... He’s been an influence in our community for many years, between founding groove tubes and the tube amp book, we’ve all had some interaction with one of Aspen’s products. Sad to hear...

Re: Aspen Pittman
That's a real shame. His book was the first I ever bought on guitar amps. A wealth of knowledge.
Re: Aspen Pittman
Yea. Sad. Used Groove Tubes in the 80's. My first Tube Amp book as well.

Re: Aspen Pittman
What a sad loss
His Guitar amp book launched me into a life consumed with guitar amps. Building, tweaking, buying selling and servicing.
Rest in peace and thank you

.........Now where did I put it?
Re: Aspen Pittman
I bought The Tube Amp Book, Vol 3 in the late 80’s (maybe it was early 90’s ). I wanted to build a tweed champ, but did not have or know of resources to acquire tube amp parts—namely transformers—being that this was a decade before the internet was available. I still use the schematic section all the time.
I friend of mine just picked up the most recent edition which is larger and spiral bound—I’m considering purchasing one to replace mine which falling apart.
I have seen GT Electronics amps used live a number of times. I think it was called the Soul-O-75 combo was great sounding. Ive also seen the Trio rack mount used live and sounding great. Of course the musicians wielding them were very talented.
I’ve been intrigued by some of the newer products that have 3 dimensional stereo speaker processing, but I’ve not yet heard one in person.
R.I.P.

Very sad , as it seems to be true!
It took place Friday night.

My friend was with Aspen when he passed. Aspen helped my band and I out a bunch with tubes and other stuff. Always a very cool friendly guy. This is sad news.

Re: Aspen Pittman
Went to Groove Tubes a few times to work with Aspen and Miles on his Mullard reissue tubes (12AX7M), and I got a couple of my old Celestion speakers from him pile in the warehouse...more like the rafters of the warehouse.
I'm sorry to say I found this about the crash of his van. Apparently he was alone, hit a pole, got trapped in the van, and it took 30 minutes to get him out. He died at the hospital the following Saturday morning.
