Yes. It's a good idea to have a little grid resistance, even though it is tiny. I typically build these amps (and Expresses) with no input grid resistor on the first stage and 820R on the input of the second.Ledvedder5150 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 14, 2023 3:36 am Thanks for clarifying that! What about the 820r into v2? Anyone tried that?

As by reading you is sounds like this 820R resistor is a mod not really noticeable: how about Ken Fisher writing that this is a mod you may like or not?

Thanks! I may give it a try. I'm building mine with a 10k input grid resistor.Colossal wrote: ↑Sat Jan 14, 2023 12:12 pmYes. It's a good idea to have a little grid resistance, even though it is tiny. Re: Beginning my Liverpool build!
If I put it on a switch I may notice it but hardwiring it didn’t make me think differently about the amp. I’ve had more issues without grid stoppers there so I usually go with around 1k in most things with any appreciable gain but my ‘Pool has the 820. Also has the Pacifics like the latter Wrecks so a little high end attenuation wouldn’t be an issue.

Just a few more wires on v1 and v2. Then it should be ready for first power up!

That looks really nice. Did you choose to locate your OT under your board?
Just plug it in, man.

It's in the recommended spot where I initially had it. 1st power up didn't go so well. I'm getting some nasty 120hz hum.

Here it is in another room. Is this how the tone should sound? Also, notice the horrible crackling that happens when I lower the guitar's volume. I've tried a few guitars to be certain it wasn't just a bad volume pot in my one guitar. https://youtu.be/vLxZUAcoA8U

DC on input. Change V1. You need a shield on that amp immediately. You will chase noises that don't exist.

I figured out my issue. I'm a complete moron. I had the v1a grid and cathode wired backwards. Fixed now. It still has some hum but sounds good. I'm not sure if it's the heater wires or the OT placement, but I'll work that out later. https://youtu.be/ygyXmfymlD4

By "shield" I'm assuming you mean a cover? I usually use an old aluminum cookie sheet until I have an amp in its head shell.Reeltarded wrote: ↑Sun Jan 15, 2023 11:57 pm DC on input. Change V1. You need a shield on that amp immediately. You will chase noises that don't exist.

You won't know how noisy the amp really will be until you cover it. How can you stand that? I respojd like a dog with his head in a cone to uncovered chassis hah!
Swapping grid and cathode will do DC on your guitar! lol

Spot on, these amps need a shield more than any other amps I have built for noise.Reeltarded wrote: ↑Sun Jan 15, 2023 11:57 pm DC on input. Change V1. You need a shield on that amp immediately. You will chase noises that don't exist.
