Re: What're you listening to right now??
On an old guitar history bender this week...
Tried to find Charlie Christian recordings that don't sound like 1930's...could only listen to so much of that audio quality but wanted to pay some attention to him.
Next was Mary Osborne's "A Girl & Her Guitar". 1959 or 1960. She's directly inspired by CC. Audio quality was much better. Still sounds older than 1960.
Then Oscar Moore. Couldn't see the album title on my phone "...presents Oscar Moore". I don't know if accompanying a singer kept him from getting too outside, but a couple of his singer-less albums seemed to have some weird bending or pitch issues that made me wince. Enough to make me go back to the album that didn't.
Sunday 7/31/23 was Kenny Burrell's 92nd birthday, so yesterday & today were KB listening days (I commute 2 hours a day). Kenny Burrell & John Coltrane 1963 album, then KB Soul Call. Tomorrow AM, back to Midnight Blue. I hear some people whisper the "Hendrix chord" is on that album before Jimi brought it to another genre & generation. But I never noticed before.

Showtime doing live sound with The Mermen yesterday . Lucky to get to work with my favorite band in my own backyard. Quick clip of their song “pickled Bananas”
If y’all have never given them a listen do yourself a favor and download their catalog. If you are lucky enough to find yourself a rare copy of my favorite album “glorious lethal euphoria” then grab it up! If you don’t want it you can send it to me and I will pay you !
Cheers , happy Memorial Day
