Chassis layout/construction

Post by dehughes »

So, being as you've all been so helpful, I have another item for your consideration. I'm kinda stuck between two different chassis layouts for my build (think DC30 Matchless) and was hoping to get your input. The amp will have surface mount/laydown trannies, four EL84s, one tube recto, three 12AX7s and one EF86. Two channels, etc. etc...

My instinct is to go with a longer, narrower chassis (think Marshall or Top Hat), as it would allow for better tranny/tube spacing, and let me better keep the power supply lines separate from the signal path. However, many DC30s were made, and I don't remember anyone complaining about them being noisy or problematic. Harry Joyce also used a chassis very similar in size and shape to a DC30, albeit with stand-up trannies. Anyway, your input is appreciated as I'm sure there are factors to consider that I'm unaware of...

Thanks!

I made mine pretty much just like the original, and it's very quiet...
