True vibrato

Post by tubeswell »

I am contemplating a 'true viabrato' stanadalone effect.

I know its a bit old news, but I thought Merlin's design was interesting:

Anyone built one?

(Also I know Steve Luckey and a few other guys at the Hoffman forum have built a vibrato unit using saturable reactors, and I hve managed to procure a couple of these from a buddy of mine in the US to experiment with. (Anyone here built one of those?)

Apart from that there are these projects:

(Anyone built one of these?)

Interested to hear of anyone's experience/experiments, and thoughts of continuous improvement in that regard.

TIA

Pete

None of the circuits you link to will generate a true vibrato.
Merlins is a variation of Vox circuit which was taken from Wurlitzer cinema organ.
The other two perform similar, more tweakable function but still no vibrato.
Vibrato is a change in pitch, to achieve electronically requires manipulation of the original signal in time domain which above cited circuits do not.
To be fair, phasing at certain setting settings may fool your brain to think it's vibrato.

I realise this - that's why I put it in inverted commas
