Cap measurement LCR Meter

Post by ampbldr2 »

I have been considering adding a lcr meter to my bench and start paying closer attention to the specs of the caps i am using in my builds. Was wondering if any of you measure your caps and what equipment you use.

There was a good video i found for a BK Precision 879B

If I'm testing strictly for value of new caps any old low cost capacitor testing voltmeter will do the job well enough. If you're testing for leakage then there are two ways of doing it that I use. I use an IRT 2 insulation tester and if I get any meter indication at all the cap goes in the trash. If I want to know exactly how much leakage in microamps a cap is doing I use a special purpose cap checker I built last year. Pics here at http://judyboxamp.blogspot.com/2011/07/ ... t-iii.html
