Clapton's Dumble On the Bandstand

Post by ayan »

Reportedly, he bought the amp at Gruhn guitars in Nashville just the other day. It'll be interesting to see what type it is and how he uses it...

Very interesting... How did you get the story about the purchase?

Saw him a couple years ago and he sounded nowhere near that good. In many ways.... Cool.

Very cool he is using a Dumble.

Also, the pedal steel player in this band is using a Tim Marcus amp called Milkman steel guitar amp (tag member) to right of the stage.

It's on the Les Paul Forum and The Gear Page, apparently someone went to the store and got the scoop.

Agreed. Yet, the tone is not muddy like it can be with his Tweed Twins. I think he's getting a great sound.

A friend of an acquaintance was the owner of said Dumble. He had it on consignment at Gruhn Guitars. Supposedly it belonged to Eric Johnson.

Anyone figured out which model? Is it an ODS?

Eric really digs into the amp in this video HERE.

After a good 5-6 times through the video, my best assessment is High Plate Skyline Non-HRM 6L6ʻs.

Whatʻd you guys think?

That, or a well tuned HRM with EL34s comes to mind. Both a Dumble I played and a personal build of mine would do this tone.

Clapton uses a mid boost in his strat for that tone. I wish the audio was a little better.

Definitely a much better sound. I've got his 24 Nights live at the Royal Albert Hall double cd and i always think of that beeing the ultimate Clapton live sound. I believe he uses Soldano amps.
